About siding installation
New siding covers the outside walls of a house and keeps rain off the frame. The job starts with taking off the old siding and checking the sheathing under it for rot. Then the crew puts up a water-resistive barrier, flashes every window and door, and hangs the new panels. Most leaks behind siding come from poor flashing, not from the panels. Get the scope in writing: what comes off, what wood gets replaced, and which trim is new.
