About soffit and fascia

Fascia is the board along the roof edge that carries the gutter. Soffit is the panel under the overhang, and its vents let air into the attic. When a gutter overflows or leaks for years, water soaks the fascia and it rots from behind. Then the gutter sags or pulls loose. A gutter contractor can replace the rotten boards before new gutters go up. Many cover the new wood with aluminum or vinyl wrap, so it does not need paint.
