About downspouts and drainage
Downspouts carry the water from the gutters down to the ground, and drainage carries it away from the house. A downspout that empties next to the wall puts the roof’s water against the foundation, where it can reach a basement or crawl space. Extensions, splash blocks and buried drain pipes move it a safe distance away. Larger downspouts clear water faster and clog less often.
