About tile roofs

Clay and concrete tile roofs last 50 years or more and stand up to sun and hail better than shingles. They weigh two to four times as much, so a roofer must check that the frame can carry the load. Most tile work is a repair of broken tiles or of the underlayment beneath them, which wears out long before the tile does. A tile roof can often be lifted, re-felted and relaid with the same tiles.
